Purges in the Military and Growing Resistance in the Street
In this episode Sam shares clips from voices of conscience who’ve spoken up this past week before joining Mark to dissect and analyze the state of the fascist ascent one month in. Topics include CPAC, growing protests, and major moves of the regime this week: their military purge, the terror they’re unleashing against immigrants, their expanding cuts of federal workers and extreme threats against judges, politicians, professors, and even whole cities. Sam urges listeners to come to DC on Tuesday March 4 to protest when Trump speaks to Congress & to volunteer to help make the protest as powerful as possible.
Unprecedented: Sasha Abramsky & Thomas Zimmer on the Crisis We Face
Then Sam interviews historian Thomas Zimmer, co-host of the “Is this Democracy” podcast, to discuss the qualitative transformation of the US government over the course of the last month, through constitutional crisis to the brink of categorically ending constitutional order. Understand, STOP this American Fascism
Fascism is not just a gross combination of horrific reactionary policies. It is a qualitative change in how society is governed. …What is crucial to understand is that once in power fascism essentially eliminates traditional democratic rights. – READ MORE
FREE MAHMOUD KHALIL NOW
The DETENTION of MAHMOUD KHALIL
is a FASCIST ATTACK on FREE SPEECH
and ACADEMIC FREEDOM
The TRUMP FASCIST REGIME MUST GO!
RefuseFascism.org demands the immediate release of Mahmoud Khalil. His arrest and detention is an illegal and immoral attack on basic rights, academic freedom, and the rule of law. It marks an ominous and vicious escalation in the Trump regime’s fascist program. It is a dramatic further assault on the rights of all immigrants and all of society: crushing dissent, neutering academia; forbidding critical thinking and free expression. Everyone who cares about justice needs to stand with Mahmoud Khalil.
Last Saturday, Mahmoud Khalil, a recent Columbia University graduate student and leading Palestinian student activist was swept up by the Department of Homeland Security. Khalil was whisked away from his wife (8 months pregnant and a U.S. citizen) and is currently incarcerated in an immigrant detention camp in Louisiana.
Shortly after Khalil’s arrest, Secretary of State Marco Rubio threatened to revoke the student visas and green cards of foreign-born students who have spoken out against Israel’s US-backed oppression of Palestine.
This is a lethal acceleration of the Trump regime’s fascist wars on immigrants, on free speech, on the right of public assembly, on universities and academic freedom, and on the open political life of all society.
This statement needs to be spread
to every corner of society
Every week, the fascist Trump regime is making huge leaps in tearing up the rule of law and civil and democratic rights. With the criminally ominous arrest of Mahmoud Khalil, fascism has advanced to the stage of Gestapo-like kidnappings of activists. Now is the time to take very seriously the lessons of the poem from Martin Niemöller:
First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

Refuse Fascism
What is Refuse Fascism?
RefuseFascism.org was initiated on an emergency basis in the wake of the election of Trump and Pence in 2016. Our founding mission called on all who recognized the catastrophic danger of the Trump/Pence regime to unite and organize to drive the regime out of power through sustained, non-violent mass protest. We pledged to the world that we would not stand aside while there was still a chance to stop a regime that imperiled humanity and the earth itself. With our slogan: In the Name of Humanity, We REFUSE to Accept a Fascist America! And our single unifying demand: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!
This Pledge to the People of the World, initiated by Refuse Fascism, appeared in the New York Times on November 9, 2020
Co-initiator of Refuse Fascism Cornel West on the impact of the analysis and work of Refuse Fascism over the past years
It was the Refuse Fascism movement … that has put fascism on the map for the past five years. And that needs to be said!
