Moby & The Void Pacific Choir’s new music video “In this Cold Place” eerily portrays the soul-crushing, planet-destroying, fascist Trump/Pence regime. With dynamism and humor Steve Cutts, the animator of the video, creates a cartoonish world that embodies the horrors of the Trump program.
Taking a page straight out of Hitler’s playbook, the modern day brownshirts – aka internet trolls – have emerged from their sewage land to immediately attack this work of art. Moby is being accused of “corrupting children into hatred and accepting violence against President Trump.” In the video, Trump is a transformer-like robot who turns into a swatiska-dollar sign and blows up. But to the minds of Trump’s fascist base, the video might as well portray instructions on how to crucify their leader. Meanwhile, around the country, Muslims, immigrants, people of color, and others face threats to their well-being and their very lives on a daily basis at the hands of these same fascists. This is art that plays an important part in exposing the illegitimacy of this regime. It deserves to be shared, debated, and defended.
