Let’s not sugar-coat the situation. We are confronting a fascist regime, with a program of genocidal ethnic cleansing, making an ominous power grab to “build the wall.” That wall is both a toxic symbol and celebration of xenophobia, and it will literally kill people, driving desperate people including children to even more deadly attempts to escape unlivable conditions. This power grab must be resisted now, and even more essentially, this regime must be DRIVEN from POWER.

At today’s #FakeNationalEmergency rally in Newark, immigrants rights activist Rita Dentino blames fencing that already exists as well as the country’s enforcement policies for the deaths of immigrants who have crossed the border illegally, many of them fleeing gang violence. “Every single bit of wall makes a refugee’s journey more dangerous,” she said. “Refugees — people fleeing for their lives — must choose a perilous, dangerous path to get here, and they die. They die in our southern deserts.”
“The wall we already have is no good,” Dentino said. “More wall is worse.”

There IS a human crisis: People are dying in the seas fleeing Africa and the Middle East. They are dying in the dessert and in hellish concentration camps set up now on the Mexico side of the U.S. border. People are fleeing places in the world where climate change, wars of empire, brutal tyrants installed or backed by the USA, and global hyper-exploitation have made life unlivable. When (and if!) they survive their journeys, they are demonized, locked up, torn from their parents, or driven into the most desperate conditions to survive.
These are human beings. This is a crisis for humanity. And we cannot stand by while Trump imposes a national emergency to ratchet all this up to a whole other level of horror and at the same time ratchets up imposing a fascist form of rule where resistance of any form is rolled over and crushed. On Monday, February 18 (and beyond), join with Refuse Fascism at the President’s Day protests in reaching out to people who are taking to the streets to protest Trump’s “national emergency.” We will inviting, and struggling with people to act in the only way that end this nightmare: driving this regime from power. Everyone who sees the Trump regime as the emergency, who is full of anguish over Trump’s power grab needs to confront that this is a regime that must be driven out.
Only the people can do this. Not the Democrats, who promised “no money” for the wall and voted for $1.65 billion. Not the courts, they upheld almost all of the Muslim Ban. Only unrelenting, nonviolent mass protest demanding that Trump/Pence fascist regime must go, and not stopping till the demand is met will redress this.
And beware…Telling people that the real problem is that Trump’s “national emergency” is a danger to the “national interests” (as opposed to humanity’s interests) opens the door to people getting enlisted – politically at least – behind militaristic arguments that the problem with Trump’s emergency is that he is de-funding the military.
For those who can, join protests in the streets in the coming days and bring the truth: IN the NAME of HUMANITY, TRUMP/PENCE MUST GO!

“All these different outrages are things that everybody has to be outraged about, not just the people who are most directly affected. This is an important thing we have to struggle with…This idea that maybe I can avoid the horrors happening to me, and my loved ones, and those I most care about is deadly, and will be the death of any real movement that we need…” (Quote is from the clip below).
