When: Tuesday July 25
Where: 4 pm Rally at 229 East Front Street, Youngstown, OH 44503
5 pm March to join the Rally to Save Our Care, Central Square
Coming from Ohio, Pennsylvania, and as far as New York, Tuesday, supporters of RefuseFascism.org will bring the demand: Trump/Pence Regime Must GO.
RefuseFascism.org says, “It is at these rallies that Trump said, he ‘longed for the days when he could punch a protesters in the face,’ and launches attacks on the press, against Muslims, refugees and immigrants. Do not let this go unanswered.”
Calling the Trump/Pence regime “fascist” they say, “Fascism is not just a gross combination of horrific reactionary policies. It is a qualitative change in how society is governed. Fascism foments and relies on xenophobic nationalism, racism, misogyny, and the aggressive re-institution of oppressive ‘traditional values.’ In Trump’s election campaign he encouraged and fed on the threat and use of violence to build a movement and come to power. In his inaugural address he pledged allegiance only to this movement. What is crucial to understand is that once in power fascism essentially eliminates traditional democratic rights.”
Youngstown, a de-industrialized former steel town, is now home to one of the largest immigration detention centers in the U.S., the Northeast Ohio Correction Center. In December, CoreCivic, the large private prison corporation, received a contract to hold more than 2,000 people for ICE. The Federal Bureau of Prisons had canceled its contract in 2014 with CoreCivic because prisoners were being abused there. People being detained by ICE are are not convicted of a crime, and are not prisoners.
RefuseFascism.org protest outside a speech by Jeff Sessions Friday in Philadelphia; at a Pence fundraiser in Columbus OH on Saturday, saying “Every outrage committed by this regime must be met with greater and greater resistance.”
