“Amy Coney Barrett refused to answer the most basic questions about whether Trump could postpone the election, voter intimidation was illegal, or if she’d recuse herself from a Trump election challenge.” says RefuseFascism.org co-initiator Sunsara Taylor, who is protesting and reporting from Washington, DC, this week where a noon rally at the Supreme Court has been announced.  “She’s [Barrett] part of Trump’s rolling fascist coup.  We demand No Fascist Court, No Fascist Coup, Trump/Pence Out Now!”

In support of those demands, Refuse Fascism Chicago, Freedom International, No More Foundation and supporters have called a rally in conjunction with rallies in cities around the country today, October 15.

In Chicago, speakers will include:

Mr. Durkin calls Barrett’s nomination “a blatant undemocratic power grab” and cites an open letter from over 200 faculty members University of Notre Dame Law School, his Alma Mater, who implore Judge Barrett to request that her nomination process be paused until after the next President is seated.  It reads in part, “The politics of your nomination, as you surely understand, will further inflame our civic wounds, undermine confidence in the Court, and deepen the divide among ordinary citizens, especially if you are seated by a Republican Senate weeks before the election of a Democratic President and Congress.” 

That election itself is imperiled by the same forces that are determined to smash all norms and precedents to put another Christian fascist judge on the Supreme Court.  For all those reasons and more, Refuse Fascism calls on everyone who is horrified by these developments to join together in the streets now in day after day protests to demand that Trump and Pence must go.

“We face a critical crossroads,” says Taylor.  “As the regime tears up norms, refuses to be bound by elections, and unleashes fascist violence, voting is essential, but not enough!  We need to take to the streets and stay in the streets demanding Trump/Pence Out Now!  We must overwhelm their fascist coup and terror with our nonviolent, massive, day after day protests until the regime is removed from power.  We must do this in the name of humanity.”  

“The steamrolled confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett will lock in a pro-fascist majority to throw the election to Trump no matter how you vote,” Taylor continues.  “It will transform the highest court in the land into an instrument of white supremacist, Christian theocratic atrocity stripping women, LGBTQ people, and many more of their basic human rights.” 

“We must act Day after Day from now through the election, come into the streets and city squares in non-violent protest to demand Trump/Pence OUTNOW!” says Coco Das, a member of the Refuse Fascism Editorial Board.

“Bring others and come back in waves, just as we did in June and July when we came back day after days to march for Black lives,” says Carl Dix, a Refuse Fascism co-initiator.  “With the demand that the regime must go, and mass non-violent protests that do not stop until the demand is met, hated regimes around the world have been driven from power.”
