6 November 3:00 pm EST For Immediate Release New York Times censors ad from Cornel West, Noam Chomsky, Lilly Wachowski, Arturo O’Farrill, and others on the fascist danger of Donald Trump and the regime he headsWHAT: Press Conference re NYT political censorship On Wednesday, November 4, the organization Refuse Fascism submitted the attached ad to the New York Times. The ad is a pledge “to the people of the world,” saying that “In the name of humanity, we refuse to accept a fascist America. The Trump-Pence regime must go!” The pledge has been signed by many prominent people in different spheres of society. Go HERE for pledge and signatories. The Times initially asked for changes. Refuse Fascism was willing to make changes to accommodate the Times, but the Times then demanded further changes that would have vitiated the essential message of the pledge. “The New York Times rejection of this ad is how fascism comes – by conciliation, self censorship and censorship. Armed fascist mobs are intimidating vote-counters. Donald Trump declared he won on election night, the election a fraud, and is filing lawsuits to overturn the vote going all the way to the Supreme Court now packed with right-wingers loyal to him. The urgent message of The Pledge to the People of the World needs to be heard. The NYT’s refusal to print this paid ad – whose essential content they printed twice before in 2017 – is shameful and collaborates with a regime still in power who can do great damage to humanity.” |
