D.C., Thursday night: Hundreds of protesters, including Refuse Fascism, confronted Trumpites celebrating at the “Deploraball” for hours at the National Press Building in Washington, DC. Police attacked the crowd, pushing, shoving and spraying protesters with pepper spray. After the attack, the crowd continued to grow in size and defiance. People danced the street, projected “Not My President” in huge letters on the building, and went nose-to-nose with “Bikers for Trump.”
In New York City, thousands of people rallied at Columbus Circle, near the Trump Tower, at a rally addressed by Michael Moore and other celebrities in the entertainment world, including Mark Ruffalo, Sally Field, Cynthia Nixon, Cher, Alec Baldwin and Robert De Niro. According to the NY Times, actor Mark Ruffalo said in a statement, “thousands of New Yorkers are coming together to stand up for one another, as we will do every day, to protect the values we hold dear — to fight for health care, criminal justice, immigrant rights, and action on climate change.” A 19-year-old student told the New York Times, “Trump is a direct threat to me and my humanity… I’m worried about student loans and women’s rights and a million other issues. I couldn’t not be here.”

Refuse Fascism made a big impact, noted in the Times coverage. After the rally, several hundred people joined with Refuse Fascism and marched to the Trump Tower, and then to Times Square – one group chanting “March to the Tower, don’t let them take power!”
