In 2003, Roy Moore was unseated from the Alabama Supreme Court for refusing to remove the 10 Commandment from courthouse property. Moore’s actions were illegal and this alone renders him illegitimate for any public office.
In defiance Roy Moore and his illegitimate display of the 10 Commandments, RefuseFascism.org issues 10 Indictments against Roy Moore, as well as against the whole Trump/Pence Regime which have thrown the full weight of the White House behind him and his views.
RefuseFascism.org is calling for protests on December 12, election day in Alabama, and is organizing to drive out the Trump/Pence Regime. Find your nearest protest here.
The 10 Indictments of Roy Moore — And the Entire Trump/Pence Regime:
1) Inflaming White Supremacy
Roy Moore said the last time America was great was during slavery: “I think it was great at the time when families were united — even though we had slavery…”
Moore said that getting rid of all constitutional amendments after the Tenth Amendment — which would include the abolition of slavery, women’s right to vote, and many others — would ‘eliminate many problems.’
In 2004, Moore led the charge against removing the following explicitly segregationalist language from the Alabama state constitution: “Separate schools shall be provided for white and colored children, and no child of either race shall be permitted to attend a school of the other race.”
2) Forcing Women to Have Children Against Their Will
Moore wants to make abortion under every circumstance illegal from the moment of conception and punish those who provide or procure them.
Moore wrote “poetry” comparing abortion to murder: “Babies piled in dumpsters, abortion on demand.”
Moore is endorsed by — and has not disavowed — anti abortion extremists, including one who signed a letter suggesting that the murder of abortion providers is justifiable.
3) Violent Anti-LGBTQ Bigotry
Roy Moore was suspended from the court for illegally ordering judges in Alabama to defy the Supreme Court by refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Moore has called homosexuality “abominable, detestable, unmentionable, and too disgusting and well known to require other definition or further details or description.”
In 2015, Moore said that he did not know if gay people should be executed.
4) Taking a Sledge-Hammer to the Separation of Church and State
Roy Moore was twice removed from the bench for elevating “Biblical law” above the law of the land: Once when he refused to remove a monument of the 10 Commandments from his courthouse, once when he illegally ordered judges to deny marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
Moore claims: “[T]his country was not founded on Muhammad. It was not founded on Buddha. It was not founded on secular humanism. It was founded on God,” and that the U.S. Constitution was written to “foster Christianity.”
5) Willfully Promoting Harmful Anti-Scientific Ignorance
Roy Moore blamed drive-by shootings on the teaching of evolution, one of the most scientifically established and foundational theories in all of science, in the schools: “They are acting like animals because we have taught them they come from animals.”
Roy Moore denies the scientific consensus on global climate change: “Not only do scientists disagree on ‘global warming,’ but there is little hard evidence that carbon emissions cause changes to the global climate.”
6) Defending Sexual Assault
Moore twice argued that Alabama “rape shield” laws should not prevent alleged sex offenders from using certain evidence about their underage accusers’ personal lives — including about their sexual history — to discredit them.
While the credible accusations of sexual assault against Moore have not been proven, Moore has admitted that in his 30s, he “dated” teenage girls. His clarification, that he only recalls doing so with “the permission of her mother” only makes this worse, as this is dripping with the patriarchal view that girls are the property of their parents.
Moore, like Mike Pence, has enthusiastically championed Donald Trump, who not only openly admitted — but bragged about — committing sexual assault.
7) Fomenting Xenophobic Nationalism
Trump has championed Roy Moore, in part, to ram through his anti-immigrant program, tweeting: “We need his vote on stopping crime, illegal immigration, Border Wall.”
Moore called DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) “a mere memo from the Department of Homeland security under Barack Obama, which violated the laws.”
Moore vigorously supports Trump’s “Border Wall” and insists, “We need to stop illegal aliens coming across our border.”
Moore was a leading voice in the “birther movement,” insisting that Barack Obama was not a U.S. natural born citizen.
8) Persecuting Muslims and Other Non-Christians
Moore called Islam a “false religion.”
Moore said that Keith Ellison, the first Muslim in Congress, should not be sworn in. Comparing the Quran to the Hitler’s Mein Kampf, he said: “Islamic law is simply incompatible with our law,” he wrote. “In 1943, we would never have allowed a member of Congress to take their oath on ‘Mein Kampf,’ or someone in the 1950s to swear allegiance to the ‘Communist Manifesto.’ Congress… should act to prohibit Ellison from taking the congressional oath today!”
Moore said: “..the only thing I know that the Islamic faith has done in this country is 9/11.”
Roy Moore defended Christian bigots who disrupted the first Hindu prayer in the U.S. Senate in 2007, writing, “[I]t was the God of the Bible and not Allah, Buddha or one of the many gods of the Hindu faith who provided and sustained us during our formative years.”
9) Suppressing Black and Latino Vote
Voter ID laws in Alabama were consciously designed to, and have had the effect of, dramatically suppressing the Black and Latino vote. In 2015, the state closed driver license offices in 8 of the 10 counties with the highest concentrations of Black people.
Roy Moore recently criticized efforts to counteract this suppression, tweeting a photo of Black people and the message: “BREAKING: Democrat operatives in Alabama are REGISTERING THOUSANDS OF FELONS all across the state in an effort to swing the US Senate election to Doug Jones.”
10 ) Attacking the Judiciary
Moore has advocated purging judges who don’t share his views, writing in August, “the single largest threat to our country’s existence” is “activist judges.” He pledged, “I will oppose the confirmation of liberal judges, and I will also support the impeachment of activist judges who are clearly legislating from the bench.” “Activist judge” and “legislating from the bench” are code-words for judges who have guaranteed rights not explicitly mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. This accusation has been leveled against Brown v. Board of Education (desegregation), Roe v. Wade (legalization of abortion), and Obergefell v. Hodges (legalization of same-sex marriage).
All this renders Roy Moore, and the entire Trump/Pence Regime, illegitimate and a grave threat to humanity.
Only the people can stop this nightmare! Join protests across the country on December 12 to say: No Moore! This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must Go!
