WHAT: Press Conference, Photo Op and Rally
WHEN: 11 am, Thursday March 1
WHERE: 190 N. State St, Chicago
WHY: Immigrants Stay – Trump/Pence Must GO!
A network of local activists is calling for a rally and observance of 11 minutes of silence tomorrow, March 1, for all the 11 million undocumented immigrants in this country who are the target of a multi-dimensional, comprehensive attack by the Trump regime. This includes rescinding DACA, ending the Temporary Protected Status program, and targeting immigrant rights leaders. They contend that this is ethnic cleansing and the true goal of these attacks is to “Make America White Again.” They are urging everyone to wear black, gather wherever they are for 11 minutes of silence, and post photos on social media.
In addition to the press conference, actions have been announced in the morning in West Chicago and Evanston and in the afternoon in Downers Grove (details here). Similar actions are being held in cities and towns around the country tomorrow. Participants in this action also mobilized to protest the weekly deportations at the Gary airport last week (coverage here and here).
Speakers will explain that attacks on immigrants are the linchpin and battering ram of the whole fascist program being hammered into place by the Trump/Pence Regime. They cite this week’s Supreme Court decision in Jennings v Rodriquez as another major step in that process. Fascism is a qualitative change in how society is governed. Fascism foments and relies on xenophobic nationalism, racism, misogyny, and the aggressive re-institution of oppressive “traditional values.”
