Trump and Pence spoke at the National Rifle Association (NRA) convention in Indianapolis on April 26. They delivered vicious speeches to thousands of people who are part the regime’s hard core and often heavily armed fascist base. In the days proceeding, Indianapolis news media warned that “some of the public might feel unsafe” in the downtown area where 70,000 NRA members were meeting in an open carry state. The convention advertised itself on line and on highway billboards as “15 acres of guns.”
Activists organized a protest march that went through the NRA convention area to Lucas Stadium where Trump and Pence were speaking. 25 people marched, including people with RefuseFascism.org, ANSWER, and Indivisible. People were determined to take a stand and send a message to Trump and the NRA, even while aware they might face provocations or attacks from Trump supporters. The march was spirited and loud. “No Trump, No NRA, No Fascist USA!” “No Hate, No Fear, Trump and Pence Not Welcome Here!”
After a heated confrontation and scuffle, the Trumpers started chanting, “USA! USA!” and protesters chanted, “Humanity First – Not America First!” There was a large “Trump Pence Must Go” banner along with RefuseFascism NO! signs. There was a poster saying, “Enough Enough” with an image of an assault rifle with a slash through it, “No Violence at Home or Abroad.” One marcher with RefuseFascism wore the Handmaid’s Tale outfit. There were “Baby Trump” balloons. The protest march to Trump and Pence’s speeches were part of a 2-day rally focused on protesting NRA’s role in gun violence.
Concocting coups to consolidate fascism – Trump/Pence escalate threats against the opposition
Trump’s speech to the NRA drove home the urgency of removing the regime from power before it’s too late. Talking about the Mueller investigation, Trump said, “They tried for a coup, it didn’t work out so well. Spying, surveillance, trying for an overthrow, and we caught them.” Trump went on to say, “We didn’t need a gun for that one, did I?” Trump basically is declaring that any attempt to stop him amounts to a coup d’etat and he would have the right to forcibly suppress it. This is one more example of how following the Mueller investigation the Trump/Pence regime is more dangerous than even.
