Editor’s note: A new supporter of Refuse Fascism sent us this letter to the editor that she sent to her local newspaper. She expressed that she writes and publishes many letters to editors, but realized after reading the refusefascism.org website that they were not strong enough. This is her newest letter, and serves as a great example of the kind of initiative people can take to get out the message that this is fascism, and it’s up to us in our millions to drive it out.
To the editor:
Over 800 worldwide Lights for Liberty rallies on took place on Friday July 12 demanding that the US concentration camps at the Mexican border be shut down, and refugee families be united with a legal avenue to protect their refugee status.
I was at one of the rallies, and estimated there were at least 500 people who came. It was a wonderful rally, with Native American Indians in colorful dress drumming and dancing, then a host of inspirational speakers. But I did not hear one speaker correctly diagnose the real cause of these horrendous camps, where at least seven children have died for lack of hygiene, being put in cages, told to drink water from the toilets and other horrors. And we all know that there are multiple causes of severe distress going on with millions of people in our country for a myriad of other reasons.
The cause is the Trump/Pence regime and fascism. And it just keeps getting worse, unless We the People who believe in Democracy do something about it.
Trump did not even win the popular vote – he got into power through the Electoral College.
We must refuse fascism by continuing to hold ongoing nonviolent massive rallies demanding to end fascism in this country. Other countries have done this successfully and we must, too.
