I liken this whole situation to a bull in a china shop. At the front of the shop, the bull knocks a bunch of teacups off a shelf and stomps on them. You go over and pick up the cups that aren’t broken, put them back on the shelf, and while you’re doing that, the bull goes over to one wall and kicks over a bunch of saucers. So, you stop messing with the teacups to go pick up all the saucers that aren’t broken, but you don’t get very far before the bull wanders over to the back corner and tips over a table loaded with gravy boats. So, you go over to that corner to see if any of the gravy boats are salvageable; meanwhile, the bull goes back to the front of the shop and smashes the rest of the teacups.
But instead of a bull, it’s Trump. Instead of a china shop, it’s the whole world. And instead of plates and cups, Trump is smashing children. Iranians. Women. Refugees. And more. He cares no more for them than a bull cares for plates and cups.
If you have a bull running loose in your china shop, you don’t spend all your time trying to save the china. That bull is going to undermine everything you try to do, and nothing and no one will ever be safe as long as it’s in there. If you want to save anything, or protect anyone, you must get rid of the bull.
But the “resistance” has been running itself into the ground, because all it does is react to what Trump’s already done, instead of trying to stop him before he can do any more damage. It’s also been fragmented, unwilling to come together for a greater purpose.
We need to focus our efforts on stopping those who threaten everyone and everything in this world, not just the people you care about, or the parts of the world that you like. Whatever your beef is, we all share a common foe.
We must come together to collectively drive out the fascist Trump-Pence regime with sustained, non-violent protest. Otherwise, our collective nightmare is really only just beginning.
And that’s no bull.
