October 24 2019 for immediate release Saturday October 26 – OutNow Comes Back Into the Streets to say: Trump & Pence Must Go-NOW!The #OutNow Movement – launched through protests last Saturday in Los Angeles and New York demanding the removal of the Trump/Pence regime – will spread to nationwide protests this Saturday, October 26, and the following three Saturdays. The #OUTNOW Movement is staging these protests to spark an ongoing movement of mass, nonviolent protests across the country that do not stop until the Trump/Pence regime is driven from power. As Cornel West put it on a segment of Don Lemon’s show discussing Trump’s claim that he was a victim of a “lynching,” “If things don’t work the way the system is, we gotta hit the street, we gotta go to jail. That’s exactly what #OutNow is all about. Next Saturday, every Saturday, it’s gonna be like Puerto Rico, it’s gonna be like Hong Kong. The people have to speak with their feet if the electoral/political system is too weak.” Saturday October 26 #OutNOW protests: Ann Arbor/Detroit11:00 am Russell Street @ Fisher Service Drive In the battle over impeachment, one side – Trump’s side – is upturning norms and procedures. Trump, who has inspired fascist thugs who target people of color and Jewish and LGBTQ people, has not only called the impeachment inquiry a “lynching.” He has sent his lawyers into court to argue that no branch of government has the authority to investigate him, even if he shot someone on Fifth Avenue. He has threatened civil war if he is impeached and labeled his opponents and critics as being traitors and “human scum.” His Republican minions stormed into and disrupted the impeachment inquiry and were even allowed to order pizza while doing it. For their part, the Democrats have made clear that they are impeaching only on narrow grounds of national security, election integrity, and obstruction of justice. This approach would leave intact, and in fact legitimize, the full fascist program of the Trump/Pence regime. Further, the Trump/Pence regime has made repeatedly clear that they will not respect the lawful impeachment process anyhow. All this underscores why those in the #OUTNOW Movement feel it is up to the people to “take history into our own hands, turning dread for the future into a force for hope” by driving out the Trump/Pence regime through mass, nonviolent protests. Andy Zee, spokesperson for RefuseFascism.org, spoke to the urgency of mass, sustained protest at the New York march, when he said: “the image of #OUTNOW that was in front of the Trump Tower has to be seen all over the world. This regime should not go on one day longer. 2020 is too late. We’re not here to follow that routine of assemble, march, go home and live your life. We have to get out and stay in the streets, disrupt business as usual, not only for ourselves but because humanity demands it.” |
