Even a brief recap of the Trump Administration’s most recent atrocities is more than sufficient to prove that the United States is rapidly accelerating down a path from which we may not be able to recover.
Just in the last fourteen days, a whistleblower revealed forced hysterectomies at an ICE facility in Georgia, actions that fit the United Nations definition of genocide. A senior member of the Trump Administration called on supporters to stockpile ammunition. The Justice Department has declared major metropolitan areas as “Anarchist Districts.” Donald Trump spoke of the good genes of his mostly white crowd at a rally in Minnesota.
Violence in the streets. Explicit white nationalism. Calls to invalidate the election if Trump isn’t the winner. Not to mention a complete abdication of any responsibility for a pandemic that has claimed more than 200,000 lives in the United States.
We don’t need any more evidence. Every day the criminal cabal occupying the White House moves the country one step closer to dictatorship. We’re long past the point where there is any argument about what’s happening. The only question now is whether our response will be enough.
If we don’t mobilize by the millions to stop them, the chance that fascism takes irrevocable hold grows stronger. If we don’t act now, there may not be another chance.
We cannot allow the blatant criminality and impunity of Trump and his cronies to demoralize us. Instead, we must channel all our grief, all our disbelief, all our rage — and direct it towards those who are responsible for so much suffering, so much death.
Our institutions have failed us. The exhortation that we must vote them out in November is tragically misaligned with actual circumstances. Hell yeah we need to vote, but we must recognize that if we don’t take decisive action now, we might not ever get the chance to participate in a true democracy ever again.
Mass civil disobedience is the last remaining tool at our disposal. Our institutions have failed us. Many of our elected leaders have failed us.
It is on us. We cannot fail.
And there is no time to wait.
In every city. With every last goddamned fiber of our being, we must be united around a single demand: Trump and Pence are unfit to lead. And they must leave office. Not in January.
Right. Fucking. NOW.
Now we must act. Beginning Saturday, October 3rd, gather and bring your family, friends, and community into the public squares of cities and towns across the country in non-violent protest unified by the demand: Trump/Pence OUTNOW! And, come back in waves, day after day.
September 26-27 Join mass meetings around the country, make plans to fill the streets in October and demand Trump/Pence Out Now! Find a meeting here.
