My name is Antoinette Scully, I’m a local community organizer and member of Extinction Rebellion in the San Fernando Valley. My statement will be short and to the point. Thank you to Refuse Fascism and the local press for having me speak here on behalf of myself and our local Extinction rebellion chapter. Fascism Is Anti-Science and Leads to Climate Collapse Which Leads to More Fascism Extinction Rebellion stands with refuse fascism because our government is anti-science and that stance is leading us to climate collapse very quickly. We’re already in motion to have 1 billion climate refugees globally, we’re already in motion for food deserts, scarcity, and water shortages, and to continue to be ruled by a fascist regime makes all of those things much much worse. By not having systems in place mitigate the climate crisis immediately, we place ourselves within the system that is breaking down and will treat those who have the least among us as the worst. I stand with Refuse Fascism because we need to illuminate fascism within any government and all sections of society to bring about justice for all people. The Trump/Pence regime openly denies scientific research to the severity of their own administration, as we learned of Trump’s covid diagnose late last night. Their anti-science stance has also dismantled health and environmental protections. We are pawns in the capitalist game of power and oppression. Why I’m Here I’m here today because I know how closely interrelated our climate crises is with government inaction, anti-science, and the blatant fascism that is spreading worldwide. This White Supremacist Capitalist Heternormative Patriarchal government perpetuates almost every type of injustice I work against. If you are a feminist or a housing advocate, a racial justice activist or an ally for the LGBTQIA+ community. A supporter of immigrant rights and equity at its core, you have been let down, lied to, attacked, or left behind by our government. My liberation is tied to many and your liberation is tied to mine. I’m here because we must work together, through coalitions and advocacy, because the power belongs to all the people- not a scheming government willing to kill your grandmother for profit. We cannot do this in small, insulated factions, whining about whose cause is the more just cause. Our causes are tied together by the hierarchy of injustice that is fascism.
