11 December For Immediate Release “Decent people need to stand the hell up and stop what is going on: Trump is attempting a fascist coup! Republicans nationwide are fighting to throw out millions of votes, while Trump’s fascist mobs terrorize elected officials and poll workers,” says RefuseFascism.org co-initiator Sunsara Taylor. “Whether they succeed in overturning this particular election, they are succeeding in normalizing what no one can deny is fascist behavior toward public officials, dissenters and elections, with ominous implications for not just the future but the near-term present.” “So when his vicious, vile supporters descend on DC this weekend, we will be in the public square saying: NO! In the name of humanity, we refuse to accept a fascist America!” In the Name of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept a Fascist AmericaTrump: You Lost. Court after court has rejected Trump’s legal challenges to the election, pointing to a total lack of any evidence at all. But Trump is not conceding – he’s escalating his illegal, illegitimate and fascist attempts to overturn it – whipping up violent mobs, threatening election officials and legislators, demanding state legislatures, Congress, and the Supreme Court throw out millions of votes and overturn the election. Now, on Saturday, two days before electors vote to make Biden’s win official, Trump’s fascist followers will rally in DC behind the fiction of a stolen election. Whether they succeed in overturning this particular election, they are succeeding in normalizing what no one can deny is fascist behavior toward public officials, dissenters and elections, with ominous implications for not just the future but the near-term present. At Black Lives Matter Plaza, away from their rally and in front of the White House, we will declare: STOP Trying to Overturn the Election! We will not cede the public square to fascist lies and fascist mobs. If we fail to stand against this, the fascist movement will be strengthened – to obstruct and return to power even stronger – and any of the positive changes so many millions yearn for will be far, far more difficult, if not impossible, to achieve. So we will come into the public square nonviolently to make clear: they lost, they have to go, they cannot decide the future. Saturday December 12, stand for Black lives, brown lives, Native lives, immigrants, women and LGBTQ people, the future of our earth and the people of the world. Gather at Black Lives Matter Plaza at noon. Wear a mask. Socially distance. But show up. In the name of humanity, we refuse to accept a fascist America.
