Reason #3 Why We Must Break the Silence & Bring the Noise this Saturday, November 18:
It’s not enough to hate Trump and Pence, we have to drive them out!
All fascist regimes start out with a minority of people supporting it. Donald Trump did not even win the popular vote.
Over inauguration weekend, there were powerful protests, including the largest protest in U.S. history. It’s clear there was a reservoir of people who knew this regime was not normal, who were reeling from the shock that Donald Trump – a sexual predator, a racist, an authoritarian, an ignorant buffoon – would actually be president. It was a shock that a Christian fundamentalist like Mike Pence, who believes our government should be a form of Christian theocracy, could actually be vice-president. Then the cabinet and vacant (stolen) Supreme Court seat were filled with one shock after another, people who would move fast to eliminate checks and balances, take the gloves off the police and ICE, and undo the social progress that was so hard won.
The shocks never stopped. The Muslim Ban. The Comey Firing. The Tweets. The Mother of All Bombs. Charlottesville. North Korea. Puerto Rico. Rants against NFL players. As each shock gets absorbed and normalized, the regime plows forward.
This regime has not stopped and will not stop their attacks – but too many have learned to get on with their lives. This is how fascism advances: in stages. We are now well into the stage of normalization and accommodation, of conciliation and before long of complicity in the great crimes this regime is carrying out.
The only way to stop the Trump/Pence Regime from destroying more lives and fully carrying out its nightmares is to drive them from power at the soonest possible time.
This Saturday, Nov 18, bring everyone you know into the streets to break the silence of normalization, of accommodation, of conciliation and complicity. No one in the future will accept the excuse that we wanted to do something but were too busy, that we wanted to do something but we didn’t know what to do, that we wanted to do something but were waiting for others to step out first, that we wanted to do something but we didn’t think it was going to get that bad, that we wanted to do something but stopped paying attention, that we wanted to do something but not until the “right” group organized the protests, that we wanted to do something but we made peace with it instead.
Refuse Fascism is not mobilizing people to make peace with a fascist regime. We are not here to give people a place in the resistance. We are here to drive them out, because that is the crisis, the emergency we are facing. The emergency of genocide, world war, and environmental collapse. Whatever matters to you, whether its diversity, science, the future of the planet, civil rights, democracy, or all of humanity – all of these are worth fighting for.
So bring the noise this Saturday, sound the alarm, be loud and determined and refuse to shut up and be shut down.
