March 6   Today Donald Trump re-issued a travel ban, this time on people from six countries where Islam is the predominant religion. Trump’s new ban reworks the ban he tried to implement a couple of weeks ago. Massive, unprecedented outpourings of protest at airports across the country and a court ruling forced Trump to back off temporarily then. But now Trump and Jeff Sessions, his Attorney General, have made minor tweaks in this hateful, fascist measure, remaking it into … a hateful, fascist measure that claims to target Muslims less overtly. Don’t be fooled, and don’t fool yourself. Trump’s order will tear at the lives of countless people, separating families, preventing people from working, from continuing their education. It will enflame racists to attack people they think are Muslims, and authorities of all stripes to abuse them. It must not be allowed to stand! As the updated Call of Refuse Fascism states, “There is method to Trump’s madness that echoes Hitler.  Fascism advances in stages through outrage, shock and intimidation, followed by brief periods of normalization where people accommodate to the new situation the regime has imposed.” Trump’s Muslim ban, and its demonization of millions of people based on their nationality and religion, is utterly unjust, and it is an integral part of a total fascist package that must be defeated.
