A crowd of demonstrators gathered outside Manhattan’s Ed Sullivan Theater, where The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is filmed, on Monday, July 21, to protest the end of the talk show. Footage captured by Refuse Fascism, which organized the protest, shows demonstrators holding up signs that read, “Colbert stays! Trump must go!” while chanting. The protest took place four days after Stephen Colbert announced during The Late Show that CBS – which is owned by the Paramount group – was ending the three-decade-old talk show in May 2026. “Before we start the show, I want to let you know something that I found out just last night,” Colbert said on July 17. “Next year will be our last season. The network will be ending The Late Show in May,” prompting the audience to boo. Later that day, the Writers Guild of America announced its request to launch an investigation “into potential wrongdoing at Paramount.” On July 2, CBS’ parent company Paramount agreed to settle a $16 million lawsuit brought against 60 Minutes and CBS News by President Donald Trump. On July 15, two days before the talk show’s cancellation, Colbert called the settlement a “big fat bribe” while on-air. Credit: Refuse Fascism via Storyful

IN THE NAME OF HUMANITY, WE REFUSE TO ACCEPT A FASCIST AMERICA!

NOW IS the TIME WHEN WE MUST RISE UP and ACT to STOP the CONSOLIDATION of TRUMP MAGA FASCISM. For the lives of people here and around the world we must refuse unlawful and inhumane orders… we must fill the streets and town squares in non-violent protest—not stopping until we become millions — not relenting until this regime is no longer able to implement its program or maintain its hold on power.
