Get in the streets!

In the early morning hours of January 3, the fascist Trump regime illegally bombed Venezuela and abducted Venezuelan president Nicolás Maduro. Trump openly threatened a “large-scale strike,” signaling destruction, civilian casualties, and the use of overwhelming military force as a display of raw power. Trump now claims the U.S. will “run” Venezuela—an unlawful blatant subjugation of a sovereign nation—while threatening to do the same or worse to Cuba, Colombia, Mexico, and Greenland.

This must be opposed NOW—not later, not quietly, but openly and in the streets.

As stated in the People’s Indictment of Donald Trump, “Trump has openly disregarded international law and disparaged our allies, waged unauthorized military actions, threatened wider war, and supported acts of genocide and war crimes. He asserted a doctrine of U.S. domination over entire regions, dismissing international law and human rights.” 

This massive escalation echoes Trump’s revival of the Monroe Doctrine—a doctrine of domination that treats entire regions as the rightful domain of U.S. power, enforcing submission through threat, force, and lawless violence.

Trump and his inner circle did not even pretend to follow the most basic requirements for consulting Congress before launching acts of war. This is the fascist logic of this regime laid bare: rule by decree, contempt for law, and the open assertion that brute force—“maximum lethality over tepid legality,” in Pete Hegseth’s words—is all that matters.

Trump’s refusal to acknowledge constitutional limits or consult Congress further exposes the fascist character of this regime. At the same time that this regime is unleashing war abroad, it is moving aggressively to crush dissent at home—branding anti-fascist protesters and political opponents as “domestic terrorists,” laying the groundwork for mass repression. The message is unmistakable: opposition, norms, and human life itself are obstacles to be crushed.

This invasion of Venezuela poses extreme danger—not only to the people of Venezuela, but to all of Latin America and the world.

And it poses a moral and political challenge to people here in the U.S.: How much tyranny are we willing to accept in our name?

The silence and passivity with which such outrages are met inside this country must END. Fascism does not advance only through brutality from above—it advances through normalization and accommodation below. Waiting, adjusting, or hoping institutions will restrain this regime is a deadly illusion.

Fascism is not a looming threat. It is upon us now. Humanity’s only hope is for the decent people of this country to rise in our millions—nonviolently but with determination—to drive the Trump fascist regime from power. NOW is the time to meet this grave escalation together in the streets with urgency and unshakeable resolve.
