PHILADELPHIA— As the nation approaches its 250th anniversary, Refuse Fascism will host a public forum on Independence Mall examining the Trump regime’s assault on historical truth and why the fight over history has become central to the struggle over America’s future.
The forum takes place just steps from the President’s House Site, where a federal appeals court recently cleared the way for the Trump administration to replace the slavery exhibit it had removed. The forum will explore why fascist movements seek to rewrite history, why Black history and liberation struggles are central targets, the connections between historical erasure and fascist rule, and the significance of confronting this reality as the nation marks its 250th anniversary.
“The Trump/MAGA fascists seek to suppress and whitewash the real history of this country while celebrating and resurrecting the legacy of genocide, slavery, patriarchy and imperialist conquest,” said Sam Goldman of Refuse Fascism. “History is not merely about the past. It shapes what people understand about the present and what they believe is possible for the future. That is precisely why those consolidating fascist rule are working so aggressively to erase, distort, and sanitize history. They seek to impose an official mythology of unquestioned American greatness while criminalizing dissent, censoring educators and artists, reshaping museums and federal institutions, and conditioning millions to see critical thought itself as dangerous or un-American.”
Presentations by Dread Scott, Michael Coard, Masaru Edmund Nakawatase, and Sam Goldman will be followed by a discussion.
The event is free and open to the public.
Hosted by Refuse Fascism Philly as part of building a nationwide movement that is clear on the problem—Trump fascism—and uniting all who can be united to stop it through mass, nonviolent struggle demanding TRUMP MUST GO NOW.
