This morning, after a procession by the @RefuseFascism Handmaids Brigade to the Supreme Court, six courageous Handmaids were arrested in a civil disobedience action — blocking the entrance to the Dirksen Senate office building as the Judicial Committee voted – after 14 minutes of “deliberation” – to ram ahead the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.
“Refuse Fascism ‘handmaids’ were arrested this morning for courageously protesting the vote to confirm a real Christian fascist handmaid — Amy Coney Barrett — to the Supreme Court,” said RefuseFascism.org co-initiator Sunsara Taylor, speaking from the protest in DC. This confirmation must be stopped because it is part of Trump’s plan to steal the election,”
“Trump admitted he wants to ram through this confirmation before the election so that the Supreme Court would throw the election to him should it be contested,” Taylor states. “Meanwhile, he is already contesting it: calling mail-in voting ‘fraudulent,’ refusing to promise a peaceful transfer of power, and calling for an ‘army’ of ‘pole-watchers’ in ‘Democrat-run cities.'”
“During her confirmation hearings, Amy Coney Barrett gave every reason to believe she’d be a willing instrument of Trump’s election theft when she, too, refused to endorse a peaceful transfer of power, refused to say that armed voter intimidation is illegal, and refused to acknowledge that the president does not have the right to postpone the election,” Taylor says.
“We protest, dressed as Handmaids,” Taylor says, “to oppose the Christian theocracy Amy Coney Barrett’s appointment represents and to call millions to join us in the streets in nonviolent protest demanding Trump/Pence Out Now!”
