Weekend Rallies and Marches, January 10 and 11
Dispatch from DC
Saturday Jan 10 hundreds of people came out to the White House in the pouring rain to protest the murder of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis and the overall ICE terror and escalation of fascism from the Trump regime. The protest, organized by Refuse Fascism DMV, joined in with nationwide protests and the call from Indivisible of “ICE Out For Good,” bringing that powerful demand together with what is needed to realize it: The Whole Trump Fascist Regime Must Go Now.
Speakers in front of the White House included two D.C. elected officials running for office, Oye Owolewa and Kelly Mikel Williams, Leonardo Flores of CodePink, Noche Diaz of the Revcom Corps for the Emancipation of Humanity, and leaders of Refuse Fascism DMV. All spoke powerfully to the horrific loss of Renee Nicole Good, next to a beautiful painted portrait of Renee by a Cleveland portrait artist volunteering with Refuse Fascism in D.C. And all drew important connections that together pointed to the fascist nature of this regime from the lawless attack on Venezuela to the ICE terror against immigrants on U.S. streets, the need for a people’s struggle to do nothing short of removing the regime, and the historic nature of this fight and the courage called for to advance this fight right now. With different perspectives on what has given rise to this fascism and where this struggle needs to go, Noche Diaz pointed to the need and possibility for a radically new way to live and fundamentally different system and called on people to join the Revcom Corps in the struggle to defeat this fascism and fight for this whole new way.
People marched around the White House chanting ICE Out For Good and Trump Must Go Now and took up the chant that can lead millions with the principles of this movement: Number One our solemn vow, Trump must go, Trump must go now; Number Two we’re nonviolent, we gather millions won’t relent, Number Three we must unite, different views but the same fight, Number Four when they attack, rally more people and come right back, Now it’s your turn take a stand, join us from across the land, Join us in our solemn vow, Trump Must Go, He must go now!
Local and national news covered this protest and highlighted the voices of people who find unacceptable the murder of Renee Nicole Good, the lies of the regime about it, the overall terror by ICE, and what Trump is doing overall. It is important to note that in the same location of the White House, just before the Refuse Fascism protest another group with hundreds of people protested in support of the protests in Iran, and just after the RF protest, a different group protested against the fascist attack on Venezuela, also attended by hundreds of people. Many other small protests and vigils for ICE Out For Good happened around the DMV Saturday with more planned for Sunday.
