Large Crowd Protested in Front of Supreme Court to say “Love Won, We’re Not Going Back! Trump Must Go Now!”
On Friday, November 7, hundreds gathered in front of the Supreme Court for an emergency protest on the same day the Court is having a private conference to consider a petition from the notorious Christian fascist county clerk Kim Davis to overrule Obergefell v. Hodges (2015), which guaranteed the right to same sex marriages. We must not allow the illegitimate, fascist-stacked Supreme Court to take this right away just like they took away the fundamental right to abortion in 2022.
Speakers included Sunsara Taylor of the Refuse Fascism leadership board; Shelby von Hofe, NOW National Policy and Advocacy Manager; Sophia Zoe Kilmer, Attorney and Trans Advocate; Ali Curd from Lambda Legal; Jim Fouratt, a longtime gay rights activist; Dr. Ali Muhammad, Revolutionary Black Panther Party; and Oye Owelewa; U.S. representative for Washington DC.
Sunsara Taylor said, “The ‘moral arc of the universe’ does not automatically bend toward justice. It’s up for grabs right now. Do not underestimate the power of the state in the hands of fascists as they remake society. If we do not, through sustained nonviolent protest, remove their hands from the levers of state, it will become too late to resist them. What is needed is a political earthquake from below, growing from thousands to millions in Washington DC to drive the Trump fascist regime from power.
It is our solemn responsibility, and solemn opportunity, to do what most generations do not have the chance to do: to change the course of human history in a way that is radically better for all of humanity. This is our mission, and this is why we say Trump Must Go NOW. There is either going to be a fascist America or we are going to defeat a fascist America!
