“Handmaids” to Hold Teach-In about Abortion Bans and the Fascist Trump/Pence Regime Day Before Season 3 Release

Philadelphia, Tuesday June 4th, 2019, at 6pm – Refuse Fascism Philly will be presenting “Abortion, Patriarchy, and Fascism: a Handmaids Teach-in” at Rittenhouse Square. On the night prior to the Handmaids Tale’s third season streaming on Hulu, women dressed as handmaids will be bringing to life what the real fascists in the White House have been doing to women here and around the world and what its going to take to stop them.
When abortion is illegal, women die. When embryos and fetuses are treated as full human beings, women are enslaved and their lives, dreams and bodies become collateral damage.
Mark Tinkleman, an organizer with Refuse Fascism said: “The all-out assault on women taking place right now – from the tightening of the global gag rule to the state-by-state banning of abortion, and much more – should be more than enough to get people rising up in the streets in righteous protest. But more than that, this war on women is part and parcel of an unprecedented danger for humanity: the consolidation of a nuclear-armed fascist regime in a moment of environmental emergency. And as such we need to rise in unprecedented struggle to drive this regime from power through sustained mass protest that grows day after day and does not stop until they’re gone.”
