CBS Cancellation of The Late Show is Collaboration with Fascism
Protest Monday June 21: Colbert Stays – Trump Must Go Now
What: Protest – Photo Op
When: Monday, July 21 4:00 pm
Where: outside Ed Sullivan Theater, 1697 Broadway NYC
The cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is craven capitulation to fascist censorship and retaliation. In effect, it is collaboration with the Trump fascist regime’s suppression of dissenting voices and culture. It comes on the heels of the Trump regime and their MAGA Congress drastically de-funding PBS and NPR, and at a time when Trump has openly threatened to revoke the citizenship of public critics like Rosie O’Donnell and Zohran Mamdani. Now, Trump has written on Truth Social, “I absolutely love that Colbert got fired…I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next.”
NO. Colbert must stay. It is Trump who must go…now.
Andy Zee, a national leader of Refuse Fascism says, “The cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is an attack on truth-telling and a blow to freedom of expression in the arts and media. This is fascist suppression of dissenting voices at a time when people are hunted down and kidnapped by ICE, federal troops are deployed in Los Angeles, and the rule of law is hanging by a thread. This is fascism. Appeasement is collaboration.”
Human rights activist Jim Keady says, “This is another box being checked in Trump’s fascist authoritarian playbook. The move to silence dissenting voices in the media should raise alarm bells for every American. And the fact that CBS is facilitating this for Trump – I imagine Edward R. Murrow is turning over in his grave.”
We must not let this spread a chill throughout the arts and media to “watch what you say” and “bite your tongue.” Colbert must be free to do his work without political retaliation and censorship. We call on artists, journalists, writers – and all who care about artistic freedom and the right to dissent – to speak out forcefully and resist non-violently, to stop the Trump fascist regime from carrying out its threats and terror.
We are in an emergency situation. URGENTLY NEEDED: all of us joining together in mass nonviolent struggle to grind the machinery of the Trump fascist regime to a halt – creating such a profound political crisis that Trump cannot impose his fascist program, cannot govern the country, and cannot even hold onto power.
In the Name of Humanity, We Refuse to Accept a Fascist America
The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go Now
