Several thousand take to the streets to demand “This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must GO!”
Several thousand people took to the streets on November 4 in over two dozen cities around the slogan “This Nightmare Must End: The Trump/Pence Regime Must GO!”
Forty courageous protesters in Austin, Texas stood up against 250 alt-right, fascist counter protesters, several of whom were armed. In New York City, 1500 people marched from Times Square through Manhattan. Nearly a thousand marched in Los Angeles. In Chicago, hundreds of spirited protesters, including many youth, marched with drums through cold November rain… This was a real beginning.
Refuse Fascism spokespeople said this was the beginning of a campaign of continuous protests aimed at growing to millions over the next weeks and months, until their demand that the Trump/Pence Regime be ousted from power is realized. The organization announced two weeks of actions around the country which will climax with nationwide demonstrations on November 18. Refuse Fascism projects that these demonstrations will loft the movement to remove the regime to another level.
Refuse Fascism carried out its demonstrations in the face of a concerted campaign of lies, provocation and web attacks from “alt-right” organizations. Despite continued provocations on the day itself, the organization carried through successful demonstrations without being provoked and without incident. A very diverse range of people turned out, and a palpable sense of community and purpose ran through the rallies and marches. The writers, artists and activists Immortal Technique, Gloria Steinem, Arturo O’Farrill, Eve Ensler, Cindy Sheehan, Father Luis Barrios, Reverend Greg Greer, and many others either spoke or sent messages of solidarity to the events.
Refuse Fascism has called activities throughout the upcoming week, including a demonstration on Saturday November 11. This will come near the end of Trump’s trip to Asia, and point to the grave danger to humanity represented by the Trump/Pence regime, which Republican Senator and Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Corker has warned is putting the U.S. “on the path to World War III.”
