WE NEED EMERGENCY INTERVENTION AND WE NEED IT NOW…
I am thrilled to be with you today to march to the White House to declare our independence, in the name of humanity, from Trump’s Fascist America. To be right outside the White House as Trump signs his Big Ugly Fascist Bill raising the biggest chant ever: TRUMP MUST GO NOW!
I want to talk about why we are doing this and what it will take.
Yesterday, the Supreme Court gave Trump permission to deport 8 migrants to South Sudan. A country these men aren’t tied to. A country in the middle of a civil war and a famine. A country where torture is almost certain.
In response, a spokeswoman for Trump’s Department of Homeland Security said:
“These sickos will be in South Sudan by Independence Day.”
Think about that. Fling them across the globe to a country they don’t know. They’re “sickos.” Who cares if they are tortured. They’re “sickos.” Turn off your conscience. These are not human beings. They’re just “sickos.”
These are the people running the country. These are the people making the laws. These are the people commanding ICE. These are the people backed by the Supreme Court. These are the people determining your future. And this is how they celebrate the 4th of July.
No! The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go NOW!
We’re told that the American founders fought tyranny and laid a foundation for liberty. The truth is: the U.S. was built on exploitation. Black people were considered property. Women had no rights. Native peoples were slaughtered. Right in their Declaration of Independence, the founders’ complained that the British King encouraged slaves and Native Americans to revolt.
It is for these reasons that I haven’t celebrated July 4th for over two decades.
But, even if you believe in the idea of America as a freedom project, even if you would normally celebrate July 4th, this year demands different.
It could be a good metaphor to say that July 4th should be canceled this year because of Trump’s fascism, but it is not a metaphor. All across Southern California, July 4th is canceled.
The city-sponsored block part in downtown LA? Canceled!
East LA Rocking 4th of July concert? Canceled!
Outdoor movies and concerts in Rowland Heights? The Freedom Walk in Whittier? Celebrations in Cudahy and Huntington Park? Canceled! Canceled! Canceled! Canceled!
In Bell Gardens, it is not just July 4th, but every city event through July 10th, that is canceled.
Why? Because of the terror. The kidnappings. The masked men. The unmarked vans. The families torn apart. The lack of food and water in detention. The overcrowding. The denial of lawyers. The medical deprivation. The coerced deportations. The death.
And it is not just in Los Angeles. This is happening everywhere.
Listen to the words of a young girl, maybe ten years old, from Mississippi. She was furiously wiping away tears with both hands as she spoke:
“I want my dad. The Hispanic people are not doing nothing bad… Please open the doors to the jail… It’s my first day of school for me. My dad bought my everything for me to live… The rent. And now I don’t know what I’m going to eat. And I am so lonely right now. I need my dad to help me… He’s not a criminal. Governments, please put your heart. Let my parents be free with everyone else. Please, don’t leave the child with this crying.”
This is why the streets of immigrant neighborhoods across this country are eerily silent. This is why July 4th is canceled.
How different is this than the early days of Hitler?
Jewish families hid indoors. They pulled children from school. They stopped attending synagogue. They shuttered businesses. Long before they were all deported, their neighborhoods fell silent.
And today, like then, the dehumanization and cruelty towards one group is a battering ram for a whole fascist program.
Fascism is a qualitatively different form of rule. No dissent. No rights. Just brute terroristic force. All enforcing a program of open white supremacy, vicious cruelty against women and LGBT people, and genocidal xenophobic America-First hatred.
Fascism is the Supreme Court giving Trump a blank check to shred the Constitution – as long as no one sues fast enough, or maybe not in every single jurisdiction.
Fascism is the Supreme Court saying Trump can break the law without being prosecuted.
Fascism is erasing trans people and forcing women to have children against their will. Fascism is the president threatening governors, vanishing protestors, silencing students, trampling rights.
Fascism is military on our streets. Political assassinations. Illegal acts of unprovoked, aggressive war.
The lesson of history is that fascism must be defeated before it becomes too late, before fascism is fully consolidated.
And today, Trump is dangerously close to consolidating fascism.
This is why the Trump Fascist Regime Must Go NOW.
RefuseFascism.org’s mission is to unite all who can be united across diverse political perspectives, to come into the streets again and again, nonviolently but in growing numbers and determination demanding: The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go Now. Not stopping until we create the level of profound political crisis such that Trump cannot govern this country, cannot impose his fascist program, and cannot even hold on to the reins of power.
I call on you to join RefuseFascism.org – to bring your perspective, your voice, your talents, your networks, your resources, your moral conviction and commitment to the future into this fight today.
Come back out with us on July 17th, uniting with the Good Trouble to Lives On protests and bringing in the demand Trump Must Go NOW! Protest July 28, when Trump’s unconstitutional shredding of birthright citizenship is set to go into effect in more than half the country. Join us every day and everywhere Trump’s crimes are advancing – and everywhere people are living in fear, in anger, and needing a way to act. Become a RefuseFascism.org organizer and organize them.
I come to this fight as a proud follower of the revolutionary leader Bob Avakian, the architect of the New Communism, a whole new framework for human emancipation. Some people want you to be scared of this, to think this is a hidden agenda. No. It is right out in the open. I have come to the understanding that injustice, exploitation, and oppression are built into the system in this country, inherent in the US Constitution. So I am fighting for a revolution and a new society guided by this Constitution for the New Socialist Republic In North America, written by Bob Avakian. A whole new way to live, a fundamentally different system where people’s rights are protected and expanded. This includes the right to have the fundamentally determining role over the direction of society towards overcoming all the white supremacy, all the male supremacy, all the hateful xenophobia, all the enforced ignorance and bigotry and so much more.
You don’t have to agree with all this to be in this movement, you don’t even have to look into it, though I recommend that you do. But if you are going to form an opinion of it you should have the integrity to do so based on looking into Bob Avakian’s work for yourself, not listening to gossip or snark or anti-communist divide-and-conquer tactics. You can find this work – including Bob Avakian’s decades of insights on the rise of fascism in this country and how to defeat it – at revcom.us and @BobAvakianOfficial on every social media platform.
So it is from this position that I am 100 % sincere in uniting with others to defeat this fascism. I know that the future I want and the future that you want, even if it is different, cannot be achieved unless we come together now to stop a fascist America. As we stand shoulder to shoulder we should debate the roots of this fascism, the way to defeat it, and what a truly just world would look like and require… but we should not let anyone divide us. Too much is at stake.
We’ve seen the potential to defeat this fascism in the millions who have been rising up across this country. An estimated 5 million flooded the streets across this country just two weeks ago for No Kings Day. Here in DC, Refuse Fascism led a march of close to 2,000 defying Trump’s threats. And in Los Angeles we have seen courage and defiance again and again of people refusing to stand aside as their neighbors rights and lives are destroyed, refusing to be intimidated by the military on the streets. This is righteous. It shows our power and our potential.
But here’s the thing. While it is increasingly common for people to use the word “fascism,” overwhelmingly the broad millions of decent people in this country are still not acting like this is real.
Way too many are still waiting.
Still hoping.
Still saying delusional things like: “We’ll vote him out in 2026 or 2028.”
No.
Waiting for the next election to stop Trump/MAGA fascism is like watching someone collapse from a heart attack—and saying, “Let’s wait for their check-up in a year and a half.”
No! Our rights, the lives of millions of immigrants, humanity’s future are in cardiac arrest right now. We can’t wait a year and a half for an election that Trump might not respect anyhow.
No! We need emergency intervention and we need it now. Mass, nonviolent, sustained resistance that brings this country to a halt. That does not stop until Trump is removed from power. Because unless and until this regime is removed from power, it advance on more fronts than we can keep up with. It will barrel over even the most powerful opposition.
But hated regime have been nonviolently driven from power all over the world. This is possible here.
Think about the courage in Los Angeles. Now imagine if tens of thousands poured out nonviolently every time ICE showed up. Imagine this not just in LA, but all over the country. Imagine if thousands nonviolently surrounded every institution trying to impose Trump’s fascism. Imagine how this would sharpen up the divides within these institutions, strengthening those who oppose to this fascism, and compelling even weak-kneed politicians to take a stand. Imagine how, in the face of this kind of righteous nonviolent resistance, acts of vicious violence from the regime could start to politically backfire – outraging and inspiring even more people to stand up.
And imagine if all this weren’t simply aimed at slowing down or stopping this or that crime of the regime, but demanding the whole fascist regime must get the hell out.
This kind of society-wide struggle could compel the kind of political realignment that lead to Trump being removed.
Yes, this will take courage. Yes, it will take sacrifice. But this is worth it.
Think again of the 8 shackled men being shipped to Sudan today. Think of the 10-year-old lonely for her father. Think what happens to millions more like them if this regime is not removed from power. On the other hand, think about the unity, the strength, the true freedom, and the hopes for going even further if we succeed.
The future is unwritten. Which one we get is up to us. Make your life count.
Join Refuse Fascism. Take up this mission.
Don’t do it next year.
Don’t do it when it’s convenient.
Do it when it matters most.
Do it NOW.
