Five years after Trump’s attempted coup to overturn the results of the 2020 election, Refuse Fascism organizers say, “Enough is enough. The Trump Fascist Regime Must Go now!” In New York and Los Angeles, rallies will be held to read The People’s Indictment of Donald Trump: A Unified Declaration of Illegitimacy.
Trump’s failed coup attempt was a dress rehearsal for an even more brutal and lawless second term, backed by a hardened regime determined to hold onto power. Trump has demonstrated over and over again that he will not be restrained by laws, norms, or any standards of decency.
Now Trump has crossed a new threshold with his illegal bombing of Venezuela and abduction of Nicolás Maduro. At the same time that this regime is unleashing war abroad, it is moving aggressively to crush dissent at home—branding anti-fascist protesters and political opponents as “domestic terrorists,” laying the groundwork for mass repression. The message is unmistakable: opposition, norms, and human life itself are obstacles to be crushed.
Andy Zee, a national leader of Refuse Fascism, says, “Trump’s criminal military invasion of the sovereign country of Venezuela, with their brazen abduction of its President, and the outrageous assertion that ‘we’re going to run the country’ shows three things — [1] That Trump leads a fascist regime; [2] that this regime has just heightened the danger of wider war including as a direct provocation of China, and [3] that the people of this country need to rise up to demand that the Trump Fascist Regime Must Go Now! U.S. War Secretary Hegseth put forth the regime’s NAZI logic: ‘maximum lethality over tepid legality.’ This naked assertion of aggressive brute deadly force and its total disdain and violation of international and US law has just taken a leap into the unknown, endangering the future of humanity.”
Hopes of waiting this out until a future and rigged election are illusion. The people must nonviolently drive the Trump fascist regime from power.
